THE SECOND SMED CUP GOES TO THE WORM WHEEL TURNING TEAM!

19 October 2021

SMED is a method for Lean Production, which was conceived by the Japanese engineer Shigeo Shingo.

The first application of this method by car manufacturer Toyota in 1950 reduced the time taken to carry out a setup to a single digit, i.e. less than ten minutes.

The second 2021 SMED Cup, designed to reward the group of people making operational improvements in production departments, went to Area 07 – worm wheel turning!

This quarter the team taking care of the size 50 worm wheel turning and the Motodoor gearmotor used to operate industrial and civil doors conducted a detailed study concerning the times and movements of each stage of the operation, reducing setup times by 80%.
