Lean Cup Q1: +15% productivity increase for the Production-Quality team

15 May 2026

The Production-Quality team has won the first-quarter Lean Cup thanks to a continuous improvement project that has resulted in a net 15% increase in productivity.
The project focused on workplace organisation for a new press machine dedicated to motor mounting provisions (PAM), used in the production line for cast iron helical gear reducers, helical bevel gear reducers, and shaft mounted gear reducers.
To achieve these objectives, the team structured its activities by first analysing the existing process and identifying value-added (VA) and non-value-added (NVA) activities.
Subsequently, by involving staff in brainstorming sessions, corrective measures were identified to reduce MUDA (waste) by positioning materials in “golden zones”, thereby drastically reducing handling and search times.
In addition, Poka Yoke systems (error-proofing solutions that prevent defects from occurring) and Jidoka systems (intelligent automation that enables machines to detect and manage anomalies during the process) have been implemented, ensuring maximum reliability at every single stage.
Congratulations to the team comprising Marco Vezzali, Alberto Orlando, Massimiliano Pistis, Yamani Toufiq, Mohamed Medimagh, Morena Ghiddi, Davide Serri, Hatem Laamari, Paolo Ferrari, Alfonso Adinolfi, Simone Conti and Marco Sernesi
