India celebrates its independence day on 15 August.

The country proclaimed its independence from the British Empire in 1947 following the famous Tryst with Destiny speech, which still has the power to touch anyone listening to it to this day.

On the 15th of August, India's population still gathers at the Red Fort, the largest monument in Old Delhi, to listen to the speech given by the Indian prime minister to the country, reminiscing about India’s history and great figures who contributed to making India a free country, like Gandhi.

During celebrations, the national flag will be hoisted up to the sky and hundreds of kites will be carried by the wind as a symbol of freedom.
