An SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die) exercise was carried out on the DEN01 machine in the gear cutting department, with the aim of reducing set-up times. The project resulted in a considerable improvement, with a 30% reduction in set-up times.

The team achieved this result by analysing the set-up activities in detail, which identified the main opportunities for improvement. Targeted measures were therefore defined and implemented, both at organisational level – through the use of 5S and the reduction of MUDA – and at technical level, with the introduction of new pneumatic gripping equipment.

The project concluded with the formalisation of new operating standards and the verification of the set-up process against the predefined targets.
